Our Love
Many of you have known us for years, but hear from each of our perspective how we met and our engagement.
How We Met
Meeting in high school — I stumbled upon Josh in October of 2014. I was attending a football game with some friends and while watching the game, I noticed someone on the field who was on the sideline in flip flops. With our school being fairly small, a new student was always easy to spot. But I have never seen this guy before and he stood out from the crowd with his outfit which was a football jersey, shorts and flip flops. I thought, ‘flips flops in October? hmmm that’s my kind of person.’ After the game, I went to an old friend on the football team to figure out who this new student was. Before I knew it, there I was a week later attending a soccer game and as I walked into the bleachers, the football guys all sitting together are screaming my name to get me over there to sit with this new guy I spotted, Josh.
We talked and laughed through the night, and the next day, the next week and the next week after that and before we knew it, we never stopped talking and laughing. This still stands true to this day.
Lauren’s POV
Josh’s POV
I met Lauren through a mutual friend in high school - And she is the best thing to ever happen to me.
Many thoughts crossed my mind when I first saw Lauren. I remember thinking, how is it possible that she has an interest in me. I tend to take things at face value, and since I had recently transferred schools, I was awkwardly adjusting to a new setting and meeting new people. I reflect and think back on that day often. It was a pivotal turning point in my life. Lauren was so beautiful and so outgoing, never did I ever think there would be mutual interest. We officially met during a high school soccer tournament later that week. I recall being both anxious and eager to meet this girl. Her beauty was intimidating and something in me knew I had to take this opportunity. I am thankful for my intuition and well..10 years and counting she has turned into my best friend and the absolute love of my life.
Our
Engagement
Deep in the Grand Canyon, we were on a 7 day white water rafting trip. Enjoying the amazing views, sandy beaches and quality time spent with Josh and my parents who were on the trip with us, I could feel some sense of something being off with Josh. Little did I know it was because he was so nervous, not from the rapids but from the upcoming, major life moment questions. Days go by and we had witness and experienced the most amazing desert views and crazy rapids and on Day 5, we were hiking up Deer Creek Trail. We get to the springs and in typical fashion, Josh and I set out to climb up the smaller cascading waterfalls. All of a sudden, while frolicking, I turn around and see Josh down on one knee. I was so surprised and filled with so many emotions but most importantly so much love. And that brings us here to today.
Lauren’s POV
Who knew a question could hold so much weight—the experience is like no other.
I don’t want to sound too over-confident, but every bit of me knew the answer to this question. And it wasn’t the answer anyway that was so daunting for me. It was the nerves and excitement that lead up to it. Looking back at it now I believe that these feeling are a true testament of how much you can love a person. I wanted this moment to be intentional and to last a lifetime.
Sit back and relax—This is how it all went down. I had every intention of asking Lauren to marry me on our rafting trip. There were a lot of options and places to choose from, but after giving it some thought, I settled on one Mile 136 - The Patio of Deer Creek Falls. I remember pulling Lauren away from the other crowds to try and get some privacy so I could ask the question. We walked around for a bit and we found this lone waterfall. It was incredibly peaceful...sort of nestled in through a little passageway with cliffs towering over us. I thought, well, this is the perfect setting, so I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. I was right, not a doubt in my mind. She said yes.
